What Are Migraines?
Migraines are a headache disorder in the nervous and vascular systems. Triggers may include fatigue, hunger, stress, dehydration, certain foods, air conditions, or certain lighting, especially certain artificial lighting methods.
Common conservative and alternative treatments for migraines include extracts, such as butterbur, acupuncture, neurostimulators, nerve inhibitors, and migraine surgery, in which some nerves are decompressed.
For those with chronic migraines, the use of botox has shown to be effective.
What Does Botox Do for Migraines?
Botox is injected into specific sites in the head and neck. Once injected, botox is known for paralyzing muscle fiber. The causes a disruption in neurotransmission, preventing some chronic migraines. This has not been shown to be as effective in patients suffering from episodic migraines as it is effective in patients with chronic migraines.
